Happy Halloween! Blessed Samhain! Did you know the origins of Halloween come from Ireland about 3,000 years ago? It was celebrated to signify the end of the summer growing season and the beginning of the cold winter season. The people believed since this was a time of transition from one season to the other, it was a time when the dead could walk among the people. One could reach out to those who had passed to ask what the future held. Ancestors would be honored and the any harvest that was not brought in by this time would be left in the fields for the Fae. Bonfires were lit and the people, who had let their hearth fires burn out, would take a piece of this bonfire to light new fires in their homes.

Halloween is my favorite time of year and always has been. Even though it's a traditional time of death, what with the foliage dying and making way for winter, I have always found it a comforting time. As anyone who knows me will tell you, the first sign of Halloween decorations in the store, usually a craft store, will have me dancing in the aisle.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween this year!
